REVIEW: The Music Man at the Kennedy Center

photo by Jeremy Daniel  Last week I had the pleasure of attending the Kennedy Center's newest Broadway Center Stage production. For those of you unaware of the series, Broadway Center Stage puts on strictly limited engagement, semi-staged concerts featuring the best performers Broadway has to offer at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC. Since their inaugural season last year, the Kennedy Center has put on some fabulous BCS performances, including Chess, How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying,  and Little Shop of Horrors , starring well-known Broadway veterans such as Ramin Karimloo, Raul Esparza, Karen Olivo, Betsy Wolfe, Josh Radnor, Megan Hilty, and more! REVIEW: My Fair Lady on Broadway

photo by Joan Marcus As soon as I caught my first glimpse of the neon signs hanging above the entrance of the Vivian Beaumont Theatre, my face broke into a huge grin. I had been there just two months prior to see My Fair Lady  on Broadway, and I was so excited that I was back for a second round. I power-walked to the box office to pick up my ticket. On my way, I snuck a glance at the understudy board. It was completely empty. This was a good thing for me because the first time I saw the show, there were several fabulous understudies on and this time I got to see different actors in those roles. After getting my ticket I bid goodbye to my parents, whose seats were in the balcony, and I made my way to my seat in the third row of the orchestra. I sat impatiently for the next twenty minutes, flipping through my Playbill and eavesdropping on the group behind me trying to guess the synopsis of Come From Away ("It's probably about a couple who goes to a Sandals resor...

Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Drains Your Savings?

I, like most of the theatre world, am completely captivated by the new Broadway superhit Hamilton . I have listened to the cast recording on repeat nonstop for the last several months. I know every word to every song. The cast members have all become celebrities in my house. I am also extremely lucky to have seen Hamilton, and it completely blew me away and exceeded every expectation. I also luckily only paid $57 for my ticket. That sentence usually is greeted with gasps, dropped jaws, and “HOOOOOWWWW?!” That kind of price for this show is completely unheard of these days. If you buy a Hamilton ticket face value, the cheapest you can get is $139. StubHub and Ticketmaster Resale is filled with people re-selling their tickets for as much as $1,500 or more PER TICKET. Why are people doing this? Because people are so desperate to see the show that they will pay 10x the original ticket cost to see it!
